How are the freezers packaged for export ?

In addition to the standard packaging (all freezers are secured to a pallet, insulated and wrapped in heavy duty cardboard), the freezers are crated in custom-made wooden crate. This is optional and needs to be specified with the order. Fumigation certificates are included.

There are two controllers available. Prime and Merit Controllers.

How are the cabinets constructed ?

The cabinets are constructed from powder coated, galvanised steel. The cabinet interiors are Stainless Steel.

What are the product delivery times ?

Products in Stock: Immediate delivery.

The usual delivery times for non-stock items are 6 to 8 weeks from order.

Manufacturing lead times for non-stock items are 10 days to 3 weeks from order, depending on production schedules.

Shipping times vary depending on sailing and final destination.

How many models and variants does Kaltis® manufacture ?

We manufacture -86°C, Ultra Low Upright and Chest freezers, as well as -40°C, Low temperature, upright and chest freezers.

There are two variants in each range and of each type of freezer (Merit and Prime).

There are a total of 4 Sizes of upright freezers and 5 sizes of chest freezers.

How long is the product warranty ?

The product warranty is as follows:

  • Merit Series: Compressor: 37 Months, Rest of Unit: 13 Months
  • Prime series: Compressor: 61 Months, Rest of Unit: 13 Months

The warranty is effective from date of shipping of the freezer.

How many compressors does Kaltis® use ?

All our freezers use 2 compressors.

What type of cascade system does Kaltis® use ?

We use a dual cascade system consisting of a High and a Low temperature cascade.

R508B for the Low temperature cascade and R507 for the High temperature cascade.

Are the refrigerants environmentally friendly ?

Yes. Both gases are both CFC & HCFC-free and 100% environmentally friendly.

Where can I obtain the refrigerants from ?

Bona fide distributors can purchase these from Kaltis. Kaltis® does not sell these gases to end users directly.

Where is the best place to position a ULT ?

The ideal location is out of direct sunlight, a draught-free, low humidity environment. The floor should be as level as possible and the freezer should preferably stand in a low through traffic area. If possible, corridors, or other high traffic areas should be avoided.

What are the advantages of upright ULT's ?

Space saving.

Easy access to the inventory and the samples. Independent compartments, each with its own, double insulated inner door. This minimises temperature fluctuations when the main door is opened, protecting your samples and decreasing compressor usage.

Optional 5th inner door, if required.

Can a 5th inner door be added to the upright ULT' ?

Yes, but must be specified on the order. The 5th inner door cannot be retrofitted.

What are the advantages of chest ULT's ?

Minimal temperature fluctuations on opening the outer lid.

What are the drawbacks of chest ULT's ?

They occupy more floor space than upright freezers.

Access to inventory and samples is not as user friendly as upright freezers.

Does Kaltis® supply an inventory system ?

Yes. We supply a full range of storage racks and cryoboxes that have been specifically designed to fit into the Kaltis® freezer.

Do I have to use the Kaltis® inventory system ?

No, this is an open platform system and inventory systems from other manufacturers can be used.

Are the freezers easy to move ?

Yes. All our freezers are fitted with heavy duty castors.

Are the freezers easy to install ?

Yes. Although we recommend that the freezer is installed by a trained technician, the units can also be user-installed. The freezer needs to be positioned, levelled and plugged into the mains.

The operating parameters are then set through the controller.

How is frost build-up on the door seal managed ?

A hot gas halo around the entire door prevents frost build up on the inner door seal.

What type of insulation does Kaltis® use ?

Kaltis® uses a proprietary, closed cell, CFC/HCFC-free, urethane insulation, which eliminates temperature loss through the cabinet walls.

Four inner doors are standard and a 5th door is optional.

Is a chart recorder available ?

Yes. The recorder is a 7-day, inkless, 6¡¨ (15.2cm) circular cart recorder that uses pressure sensitive chart paper. The chart recorder is optional and needs to be factory installed.

How is the door opened and closed ?

The door is opened and closed using a patented Push & Pull™ handle / latch Assembly. This allows effortless opening and closing of the door in one single movement.

What protection is there against power surges ?

Both series are fitted with circuit breakers which protect the microprocessor controller, compressors and other electrical components. In addition to this, the Prime series is fitted with a Voltage Surge protector which is designed to flatten voltage spikes.

Yes. There is a back-up battery.

The monitoring systems cover freezer performance, including temperature stability, temperature recovery and the integrity of the back up system.

The alarm system monitors the internal chamber temperature, the performance of the back up system (if fitted) and door closure functions.

Is password protection available ?

Yes. The freezers are supplied with a default access code, which can be changed if necessary.

Which communication ports are available ?

RS232 is supplied standard in both the Merit and Prime series. RS485 is optional.
